If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen that it was my birthday recently, and that I had decided to kick off this new revolution around the Sun by investing in myself. Celebrations in the traditional sense were fairly limited in scale (albeit lovely), which I was fine with - I got to share a meal with some friends and be reminded of the importance of social time, even given that eating out can present a serious challenge when you are 6 weeks into a 3-month elimination diet like I am. And my parents sent me a gorgeous bouquet. My house has been smelling heavenly since - SO incredible!
Rather than chocolate cake and red wine, this year I treated myself to… a domain name and a website. How is that for a birthday present to myself!? Even though I was not entirely ready to launch the site at the time, I thought the timing was somewhat symbolic, so I went with it. There is something to be said for starting before you feel entirely ready, no?
It’s a terrible thing in life, I think, to wait until you are ready. I have this feeling that actually no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. And you may as well do it now. Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any. (Hugh Laurie)
Come to think of it, I think there is a parallel between my launching the website “before I feel ready” and taking steps to improve your health. I hear people all the time saying that they want to get healthier, fitter, lose some weight, etc. (whatever their goal might be!) but they are not ready. Let me tell you this: if you wait until you’re ready, you’ll still be waiting on your deathbed.
Just take the first step - what’s the worst that could happen, anyway? Chances are, status quo (which you are already living with ) is really all you have to risk.
So get out there. Set some goals, make a plan, and get after it, tiger.
